We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Laboratory Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services on the Customer’s Stevenage site.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for:
Cleaning and disinfection of lab equipment such as incubators, hoods and safety cabinets
Performing routine calibration/verification checks on a range of laboratory equipment such as pH meters and balances
Assisting in the day-to-day operational management of a defined set of laboratories
Support the set up and operation of a wide range of standard lab equipment
Providing support in areas such as health and safety and quality compliance, monitoring and maintenance of equipment and laboratory resources
Job Responsibilities
Support Management
Collate metrics to show the performance of the group
Expand and develop the support to new analytical areas
Share the success of the team and the support provided
Operational
Cleaning and disinfection of lab equipment such as incubators, hoods and safety cabinets
Perform routine calibration/verification checks on a range of laboratory equipment such as pH meters and balances
Set up and operation of a wide range of standard lab equipment
Prepare aliquots and label a large variety of buffers and reagents
Prepare materials and equipment for use
Undertake in-lab tasks for scientific staff to agreed protocols e.g. radioactive and environment monitoring
Operate to quality approved standards where applicable (GLP/GxP)
Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved
Ensure safe operation of any equipment used (pH meters, balances, fume cupboards etc.)
Ensure compliance with all relevant work instructions, SOPs and safety instructions
Be responsible for maintaining a tidy and efficient laboratory environment and ensuring health, safety and compliance standards are maintained
Proactively identify and implement efficiency and process improvements
Build relationships with customer and service provider organisation to provide a collaborative approach to the operational management of the lab space
Timely and accurate reporting of data including performance metrics, KPIs, relevant metrics, SLAs and weekly tasks
Other agreed tasks identified by the customer and/or manager that would support the growth and development of the service provided
Qualifications/Personal Qualities
Knowledge and understanding of COSHH, GMP and GLP principles (preferable)
Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised to deadlines, planning, organising and setting priorities for own work, demonstrating organisational and time management skills
Ability to collaborate with other teams
Experience working in a laboratory environment - preferable
Experience working with health and safety procedures preferable
Educated to at least A-Level standard or equivalent (grade C or higher) in a relevant scientific discipline. Qualified to GCSE (grades A-C) or equivalent in Maths or English - preferable
Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members.
Ability to work independently
Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with and a clear attention to detail
Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms
Physical/Mental Demands
The overall physical exertion of this position requires:
Sit or stand 5-6 hours a day in laboratory areas
Sit or stand 1-2 hours a day in office area at provided PC/Laptop
Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office areas, undertaking a number of different problems and tasks
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in laboratory
Work with laboratory chemicals and samples
