Purpose
To expedite time-critical NPI projects and research initiatives in Mass Spectrometry by engaging a motivated university student in hands-on scientific experimentation and instrument testing. The intern will contribute to the verification testing of NPI instrument prototypes, development and troubleshooting of innovative analytical technologies under the guidance of experienced R&D professionals, while gaining valuable industry experience in a global scientific organization.
Responsibilities
- Assist the R&D team in executing experiments related to mass spectrometry NPI and research.
- Set up and operate instruments, including GCMS, LCMS and ICP mass spectrometers.
- Prepare and condition chemical apparatus, sample delivery systems, and analytical accessories.
- Follow verification test plan or standard operating procedures to obtain measured data.
- Collect and analyze experimental data from mass spectrometry experiments.
- Apply adjustments to experimental procedures under team guidance to optimize results.
- Troubleshoot instruments to resolve performance or operational issues.
- Document experimental activities, observations, and findings clearly and accurately.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a university program and has completed a minimum of three years toward a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, with a strong focus on Analytical Chemistry.
- Maintains a strong academic record with proven excellence in chemistry, mathematics, and related science courses.
Preferred Characteristics
- Demonstrated prior research experience in industry, with the ability to conduct experiments in an organized and systematic manner.
- Familiarity with HPLC, GCMS, ICPMS, or LCMS is considered a strong asset.
- Strong hands-on skills in setting up mass spectrometers and sub-system components.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Eligible to work in Canada and available to work on-site at the Woodbridge, Ontario location.
