Job Summary:
As Research Associate – Sample Prep within the Solutions Omics Group at Covaris, you will play a pivotal role in both internal development and external support of all Omics solutions. Collaborating closely with engineering and R&D teams, you will assist in the development and optimization of cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving needs of the life sciences and biotechnology industries. Externally, you will support the sales team and assist customers in implementing and adopting Covaris solutions. You will play a key role in addressing challenges primarily across genomics and proteomics, and may be required to assist with solutions for other omic workflows as needed. This interdisciplinary, multi-faceted position offers a high level of interactivity and responsibility in a growing company, and the opportunity to work as part of a strong international team. This position is ideal for an individual who is open to work across different omics domain, has excellent writing skills, and the drive to create a state-of-the-art process and culture.
Essential Responsibilities:The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.
- Planning, execution, and analysis of experiments to prove feasibility of new ideas and concepts.
- Participation in prototype testing and assistance in product development and commercialization efforts.
- Generation of highly reproducible data, data analysis and presentation of results and conclusions in the form of verification and validation reports.
- Assist in Covaris Omics related pre-/post-sales customer communication activities and customer training.
- Develop expertise with NGS workflow steps including DNA/RNA extraction, shearing, and library prep from FFPE, cells, blood, and saliva.
- Develop expertise with modern protein extraction methodologies from FFPE, cells, and tissues and analytical techniques such as BCA assay, Bradford assay, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western Blot, etc.
- Support application development and Sales activities across other Omics as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating all protocols and working with marketing to upload on the website.
- Troubleshooting for basic mechanical operation and application software.
- Assist in the pre-sales assessment of new applications for Covaris’ AFA technology.
- Work with the global sales team and support the sales team with presentations, demonstrations, and communications.
- Assist in the evaluation and performance optimization of different applications, instruments, and consumables for both internal stake holders and customers.

Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by their supervisor.
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. in Physical-chemistry, Analytical Sciences, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. B.Sc. with relevant experience will be considered.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in sample prep.
Desired Qualifications:
- Critical thinking skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and timelines.
- Understanding of applied statistics and familiarity with design of experiments.
- Microsoft Office skills.
- Must be detail oriented and highly motivated.
- Oral presentation skills.
