Responsibilities

Individual will work closely with members of the Electrical and Software Engineering teams to collaborate on technical designs. They will also interface with Manufacturing and Field Service as ‘stakeholders’ of the design. The individual will rely on experience, judgement, and creativity to plan and accomplish goals. This position will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
Essential Responsibilities: The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.
- Assume a prominent role in developing a software utility for Field Service to help them efficiently maintain, diagnose/troubleshoot, and repair high and low level instrument issues.
- Top level application and workflow development
- Determining the right diagnostic test strategy to automatically identify root causes for instrument failure
- Develop individual tests to obtain key information needed for root cause of the instrument and specific device sub-systems.
- Learn the Firmware design associated with existing 220 and 230-series Covaris instruments.
- Understand the interactions of the embedded code with peripheral devices within Covaris unit (sensors, controlled hardware, etc.) and with the higher level application software (SonoLab).
- Develop the ability to implement ‘bug’ fixes and implement new features as required, and regression test existing functionality.
·Participate in (or lead) embedded system design efforts for entirely new device models, or for new electromechanical subsystems developed to supplement existing models.
·Develop engineering test interface solutions (Python scripts, for example) to interact with existing 220 or 230-series Covaris instruments and stress-test existing or new functionality.
(Required) Qualifications:
· BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or similar field
· 5+ years of Engineering Work Experience.
(Preferred) Qualifications:
· Proficient at developing engineering-level interface application software or scripts to interface with, and control, electronic hardware.
- Communication protocols such as Serial, SPI, LAN, etc.
- Hardware peripherals such as Motion assemblies, Analog/Digital Sensors, etc.
- Experience with any of the following languages is desired: Python, C, C#, Ruby
- Experience contributing to microcontroller firmware development supporting a real-time operating system.
- Experience with any of the following platforms desired: STM32 ARM Cortex, ESP32, PIC, etc.
· Capability to perform basic electronic circuit and/or system analysis and debugging.
- Comfortable using relevant lab equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
· Self-directed - able to manage time and implement multiple projects in parallel.
· Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work with individuals at various organizational levels and in the context of a project environment.
· Experience in an ISO/regulated environment strongly desired.
· Experience developing the architecture (or elements of it) for embedded control of an electromechanical system.
· Experience with basic control systems for physical systems including motion, thermal, flow, pressure, etc.
· Capable of developing simple electronic prototypes or fixtures for testing and development purposes. Soldering experience is a plus.
· General understanding of principles applicable to cross-functional Engineering disciplines or technical fields (Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Life Science) is a plus.
· Strong writing skills to contribute on Engineering Test Reports, Documentation Change Release, and Work Instructions.
