Lab Support Coordinator (LSC)

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to provide critical lab support at a customer site in Weybridge, UK. The customer is a world-leading pharmaceutical company and the role is based at one of their discovery research sites to provide a coordination service to R&D departments. As well as being a single point of contact for researchers, this role will perform general lab support activities that uniquely tie into the overall efficiency of a laboratory. A successful candidate should have great attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and be able to work independently.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To provide a general induction/orientation for new members of staff and visitors
  • To provide coordination of a 5S lean service
  • To work with Customer and PerkinElmer staff to ensure quality and compliance within the laboratory
  • Purchasing activities including: ordering, vendor management and package delivery
  • Materials Management including: dispensing, sampling, and inventory tracking
  • Glass washing and autoclaving of dirty glassware as well as restocking
  • Order management of laboratory gasses and dry ice including monitoring, ordering and delivery
  • To coordinate and/or participate in the periodic review of Service Level Agreement contracted tasks with all relevant groups (i.e Customer lines, Technical Laboratory Services and management)
  • To provide timely communication to lab users on impact of any site service work
  • Perform other reasonable duties as deemed necessary
  • Escalate any service-related issues to Coordinating leader and/or area manager
  • Fill in for Coordinating Lead role when necessary which may include the following:
    • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for all Lab Support Coordinator duties
    • Serve as the first point of escalation regarding service-related issues.
    • Attend floor/building oversight meetings.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • High School or higher with 1-3 years relevant experience, preferably in a biology/chemistry, safety, or biotechnology field/role
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry particularly in a laboratory is highly desired
  • Supply chain management or procurement background would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated leadership skills is desired
  • Proven understanding of basic chemistry is a plus
  • MS Office Skills: Outlook, Powerpoint, Word

Physical Demands:

The overall physical exertion of this position may require:

  • Sit or stand 2-3 hours in laboratory areas
  • Walk 2-3 hours within a facility
  • Reach above/below the shoulder, bend at the knees and waist
  • Lift up to 25 lbs
  • Office work activities, including keyboard, with fingers/hands/arms up to 4 hours
  • Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery
  • Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory
  • Work with biohazards such as blood borne pathogens

Working Environment

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment
  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high
  • Employee maybe required to manage hazardous wastes in compliance with company procedures & State/Federal/Local hazardous waste regulations. Duties may include: Identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, labeling
  • Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately
  • Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment
