Sr. Director of Program Management

The Sr. Director of Program Management will ensure success and achieve results by leading the global team of program managers responsible for a diverse portfolio of new product development projects (NPIs) for instruments, software, reagents and full workflows, for medical diagnostics and analytical products.   The successful candidate will develop program objectives, strategies, roadmaps, plans and own/drive execution to achieve timely and positive outcomes.  This leadership position will work across business units, all functions, and international sites to deliver program and project management excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive & manage strategic programs, projects, and partner with functional leaders toward successful project execution from concept through commercialization.

  • Recruit, hire, develop and retain highly skilled PMO staff.

  • Establish and manage stakeholder expectations for product development teams.  Lead PMO to achieve scope, schedule, budget expectations via proactive risk management.

  • Own and continuously evolve global process for new product development.  Simplify and streamline development of quality products (regulated and un-regulated) independent of project team methodology (Phase-gate, Agile, Scrum, Lean, DMAIC, etc.).

  • Train and mentor program managers, stakeholders and all contributors across PerkinElmer that participate in product development.

  • Organize and facilitate efficient metric-based project updates and phase-gate reviews on a regular cadence to synchronize project teams with leadership and proactively initiate corrective action as needed.

  • Administration and management of enterprise tools for R&D resource allocation, financial forecasting, and roll-up of R&D budget for labor and expense of all projects per AOP.

  • Elevate program management maturity level (communication, risk management, scheduling, resource management, financial forecast, etc.), and lead by example.

  • Own & drive R&D project & portfolio optimization, ensuring the most impactful programs across the company are prioritized, resourced cross-functionally and executed with urgency.

  • Develop and manage annual functional budget, with a focus on productivity & simplification.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience leading complex projects, programs, or initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience developing and/or commercializing medical diagnostic products for regulated clinical applications in global markets (CE-IVD, FDA, NMPA, ISO-13485, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills, relationship management and ability to lead teams in times of crisis

  • Constructively manage conflict and coach teams to work through or around threats, disruptions to plans.

  • Expertise in MS Office Suite and project management systems & software tools.

  • Business, financial and/or commercial acumen

  • Experience driving voice of customer (VOC), user experience/user centric thinking

  • Experience with programs involving high risk and/or high speed, including tactics to retire risks rapidly and drive contingency actions to offset evolving unknowns/obstacles.

  • Experience managing a large and diverse R&D portfolio of 50 or more new product development projects
