PerkinElmer is seeking a highly motivated Automation Development Engineer to join the Waltham MSMS R&D team.  This role will lead development of several applications on a PerkinElmer QSight platform.  The position will individually drive projects and coordinate with the team and to assure the timely launch of system solutions and reagent kits for Research and Clinical use. The ideal candidate must demonstrate attention to detail, work well with others in a team environment, be able to motivate team members, be able to define clear targets, and effectively communicate results and data interpretation to all team members, program managers, R&D and Business leaders.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of Automated Liquid Handling Sample Preparation and Systems Integration. The candidate will keep current on technology trends to drive innovation of new MS-based products at the site.

Responsibilities:

  • Be technical lead for multiple projects developing reagent kits and automated systems for LCMS, GCMS and HPLC applications for Food Sciences and Clinical Diagnostics; automatic methods for Sample Extraction, Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spec Analysis (GC-MS, LC-MSMS and FIA)
  • Mentor junior level team members
  • Hands-on involvement in all phases of assay product development, including concept, planning, development and validation
  • Coordinate with the QSight engineering team on software and hardware requirements for new QSight assays
  • Accountable for R&D DHF deliverables according to PerkinElmer Design Control Process for IVD or RUO products (feasibility plan/report, reagent/software requirements, verification & validation plan/report)
  • Verify and document assay functionality as part of system solutions developed in North America
  • Present experimental findings and interpretations to R&D team members, cross-functional leaders, and senior management.
  • Act as a domain expert for automation at the Waltham R&D site
  • Lead technical root cause activities to identify and alleviate roadblocks internally and with customers
  • As needed, manage projects by authoring project plan and ensuring timely completion of all relevant deliverables

    Role Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge in Bioanalytical method development based solutions, fluid dynamics, and material science
  • Experience with FDA GLP, ISO
  • Experience in automation, study design, sample prep, and data processing
  • Great command of design of experiment
  • Experience in requirement management tool (JIRA, Polarion, Doors) preferred
  • Strong planning and execution as well as organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of ownership, self-starter
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast pace environment, where change is a constant

Education and Experience:

  • MS or ideally Ph.D. in relevant engineering field (Biomedical engineering, analytical or physical chemistry, chemical engineering, biophysics) and with 7 years of industry experience in the life sciences
  • Track record of launched products
