In this role, the Product Manager will provide business leadership required to define and deliver successful products and solutions that increase adoption and enhance the value of current and future products in the automation and reader portfolio within food safety. This unique individual will also initiate and lead customer solution-oriented growth opportunities that leverage PerkinElmer competencies and instruments. Such opportunities would grow current end markets and define new applications where we would have a higher right to win. These may include organic development, OEM agreements, strategic partnerships and acquisitions across the food safety portfolio.  Work with Business Development, Marketing, Sales, Quality, and R&D as appropriate to identify opportunities based on strategic priorities.


  • Market Problems: determination of business problems in the target market that are or could be met within the scope of the business
  • Perform and lead customer segmentation analysis: assessment of the customer profile within the responsible region by industry, size, application focus, and solution requirements
  • Competitive Analysis: Identify and establish our distinctive competence based on detailed analysis of the Strengths and Weaknesses of the major competitors together with an analysis of the Opportunities and Threats relative to PerkinElmer’s position
  • Strategic Partnerships: Lead and maintain the relationship with partners for the development of a consistent growth portfolio
  • Price Mapping: Lead the price mapping and price realization strategies for the product, service, consumables, and accessories
  • Product Ownership: Works congruently with end market managers and other reagent product managers to represent the voice of the customer in ongoing and new portfolio decisions.
  • Develop Collateral: collaborate with marketing communications team and market management team to develop and deliver customer facing materials to enable sales
  • Global Business Support: understand and optimize the performance of the business execution globally.  Provide report out for both monthly and quarterly reviews.  
  • Business planning: Work with Food Safety Platform Leader and cross functional partners to formulate business plans and drive execution across the portfolio
  • Work closely with core teams for delivering NPIs: R&D, product management, sales, finance, operations
  • Pipeline analysis: characterization and understanding of the sales pipeline and how it will impact the near-term business performance
  • Work closely with commercial team to effectively map the partner/competitive landscape and develop winning strategies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of product management and/or marketing experience with technical instruments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel, including comfort in presenting technical and business content to large and small audiences
  • Substantial expertise in automation and instrumentation designed for reading ELISA and Lateral Flow results
  • Software experience in data interpretation preferred
  • Ability to analyze the financial performance of a complex global business
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and key external partners and customers.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (~20%)
