PMO Segment Leader


Directs and oversees the Program Management Office (PMO) for one or more PerkinElmer (PKI) business segments to ensure all development programs and projects meet organizational goals and requirements.  Supervises, hires and trains staff.  Participates in the development and implementation of PMO processes and policies, ensuring that products are developed in compliance with applicable regulations. Partners with VP/GM of business segment and other department leaders to define, prioritize, develop projects and programs.

Leadership:  Leads PMO staff dedicated to one or more PKI business segments

Culture:  Establishes a “Culture of Accountability”, with a focus on sense of urgency and teamwork while reconciling the constraints of scope, schedule and budget.

Process:  Responsible for working with the global PMO to update and maintain the Design Control Process that governs product development activities; including optimizing efficiency while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Strategy:  Organizes and contributes to monthly project reviews, business gate reviews for effective project monitoring, control and corrective action.  Guides reporting and presentations by project teams for objective decision making.

Communication:  The PMO Segment Leader informs the Sr. Director of the Global PMO and the Leadership Team on a regular basis about the status of all local projects.


  • Deliver PerkinElmer projects in America on time, on budget, on quality; projects include hardware (automation, liquid handling, micro fluidics, instruments, etc.), reagents, software, and systems.

  • Promote and plan realistic project timelines based on cross functional team inputs and constraints, resource allocations and budget.

  • Negotiate and offer alternatives when timeline expectations are not feasible, reconcile realistic team goals with leader expectations.

  • Achieve budget during fiscal year and for total project expense.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance of both regulated and non-regulated products.

  • Be aware of details in ongoing projects.

  • Lead the PMO staff dedicated to one or more PKI business segments

  • Build and maintain a high performing team.

  • Manage the team to achieve metric driven objectives; ensure program managers manage teams towards baseline CTQs and KPIs rather than simply reporting deviations.

  • Perform resource allocation and workload assignment for timely deliveries.

  • Work with management to analyze program proposals and program objectives.

  • Develop program plans, based on balanced budget, schedule, and scope.

  • Develop program management standards and methodologies to achieve program goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Engineering with 15+ years of industry experience

  • 5+ years of experience in program management.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience (Teams of 5+, not necessarily a team of project managers)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Experience in the development of instruments, software, and reagents

  • Clear understanding of design control from a development perspective and the ability to communicate its key elements

  • Experience preferred in developing products regulated by medical device or IVD guidelines. Ideally FDA 510(k) or PMA. CE-IVD or CFDA is a plus.

  • Positive personality which creates and fosters an optimistic work environment.

  • Ability to communicate project status to senior management in an objective and positive manner.

  • Ability and poise to interact with customers and KOLs.
