Transportation and Logistics at PerkinElmer is going through a multi-year makeover.  As such, we are seeking an individual with deep knowledge of transportation, logistics and warehousing to guide the organization through changes already in progress and to continue to identify and implement opportunities to enable the function to perform at its optimal ability.  The successful candidate will utilize their expertise to review and recommend changes to existing processes, resources and systems to optimize capabilities; define and support strategic commitments; and drive process improvement and adoptions of new standards and ways of working, all with an intense focus on speed and accuracy of getting products to customers

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Working closely with business stakeholders and project teams and translating strategies into viable solutions, providing best-practice recommendations for processes and procedures

  • Serving as the strategic and day-to-day lead for all aspects of the transformation process, including influencing designated project/non-project team members and/or third-party resources assigned to facilitate activities

  • Developing objectives and key results and evaluating progress and performance regularly

  • Providing regular project updates and communicating project priorities, tasks and deadlines to senior leadership, including the presentation of plans, risks and performance metrics to established targets

  • Establishing communication channels, processes, tools and timelines to achieve the desired

  • Leading multiple projects simultaneously 

  • Working with functional area leaders and Human Resources to align or recruit resources to support new initiatives and with business leaders to ensure the momentum and speed of activities are aligned, including facilitating timely decisions on key topics

  • Ensuring successful relationship building between merging departments and leaders, identifying any cultural considerations or potential disconnects that could risk success

  • Providing insight and feedback into entire business processes and systems and identifying opportunities and recommending, improving, providing training and deploying transportation, logistics and warehousing processes, procedures and reports

  • Serving as the main point of contact with our Global Strategic Warehousing and Logistic partner in defining and executing the transformation of Perkin Elmer processes

  • Providing leadership to a team of professionals, including assigning responsibilities; hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees as they provide attentive, efficient service to customers; assessing and recommending appropriate staffing levels and employee performance; and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or Business, with recognized certification in Supply Chain Management. 

  • 10+ years of work experience in the procurement/supply chain function with emphasis on global transportation/logistics/warehousing and procurement using air, ocean and surface modes of transport

  • 7+ years of project management experience, managing large, global projects

  • 5+ years of directly and indirectly leading and managing teams in matrixed environment

  • Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in large scale transformation of logistic and warehouse processes on a global scale, including hard results achieved and ability to effectively communicate how you accomplished these results

  • Knowledge of key International Trade Compliance regulations applicable in the specific markets

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the transportation of Dangerous Goods

  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and financial management systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Visio

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent presentation skills and strong negotiation skills

  • Trained in Lean Six-Sigma with the ability to evaluate and design process and procedures with a Lean mindset

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time

  • Self-starter with an ability to be an effective business partner rather than just functional support; a sense of urgency and commitment to meet operational and financial goals with a focus on internal and external customers

  • Strong systems and analytical skills, with ability to gather facts, figures and concepts into a concise summary with recommendations and action plans

  • Ability to make sound decisions and to execute them with success, as an individual or as a Leader in a Team environment
