Vanadis Diagnostics (part of PerkinElmer) develops NIPT screening based on cfDNA detection. The Vanadis system is built by a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers with competencies in genomics, engineering, optics, informatics and software development and uses advanced DNA and microfabrication technology to extract clinically relevant information from blood samples.

The R&D Innovation Leader will lead R&D activities focused on bringing new technologies and applications to the molecular testing product line within PerkinElmer’s Diagnostics Segment. Responsibilities for the RDI Leader includes identifying new opportunities, developing product and technology roadmaps and lead the R&D teams executing on these initiatives. The RDI leader is also responsible for contacts with and assembly of information from key opinion leaders and stake-holders. The role combines strong scientific and technology development leadership with excellent people management skills and strategic thinking to create an inspiring environment for development of innovative and high-quality products that exceeds customer expectations. The RDI Leader will establish, lead, and maintain multidisciplinary research projects with the aim of developing proof-of-concept applications and products. While most of the team sits co-located within the Sollentuna site location, this leader will work closely with global teammates to drive the overall growth of this segment within PerkinElmer.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with business leadership, he/she will define the product and technology roadmap for the existing Vanadis cell-free DNA testing platform and conceive new product ideas based on technical and scientific advancements in the field.

  • Retrieve and assemble information about potential application in the field of reproductive health from internal and external experts.

  • Develop internal and external structures and teams to build a culture for development of innovative products that meet & exceed customer needs. This includes understanding the vast capabilities of PerkinElmer outside of our Vanadis site so that those can be utilized for Vanadis customers, where appropriate

  • Develop employees by providing scientific and technical mentorship. Support teams and projects with technical guidance when needed.

  • Participates as part of the Vanadis segment strategic leadership team.

  • Works cross-functionally and interacts globally with all business functions including product management, marketing, sales, service, operations, finance, and business-development in support of the new products.

  • Academic advancement: Develop & implement academic studies for existing & new products in support of business goals. Assist customers in publishing their data on the Vanadis platform.

  • Mentor, coach and develop talented R&D staff. Create a workplace culture that supports an employees’ engagement and retention.

  • Expand core domain competencies, with a focus on molecular technologies and its applications

Required

  • PhD, or equivalent experience, in molecular biology or similar fields

  • Solid experience in R&D management of multidisciplinary teams on projects of high complexity

  • Strong communicator. Strong written & verbal communication skills in English (mandatory) and Swedish (beneficial). Ability to interact and engage across leadership teams within the function and beyond.
