Job Description Summary
The successful candidate will work within the PerkinElmer Technical Lab Services (TLS) division and will lead a team based in a research unit at the customer site, focused on biology and life-science R&D activities. This group is at the forefront of developing innovative and life-changing medicines for patients. The role is operational, requiring the candidate to deliver both line-management activities and R&D activities in the laboratory. The candidate will work within a collaborative team environment across a diverse biotherapeutic portfolio and will have opportunities to develop within PerkinElmer’s scientific arena. The role reports to the PerkinElmer Regional TLS Leader and is based at the GSK Stevenage campus.
Job Responsibilities:
Managerial Duties
Supervise and contribute to the team in the delivery of high-quality support to customers.
Oversee the work, training, development, and safety of all reporting staff; manage operational and performance issues and escalate to line manager where appropriate.
Assist in recruitment, induction, training, and routine performance management of TLS personnel.
Ensure team procedures comply with all relevant safety regulations.
Assist in the generation of SOPs, work instructions, local method statements, and risk assessments; identify relevant quality, skill, or safety requirements.
Ensure team compliance with all working instructions, SOPs, and safety instructions.
Act as an ambassador for TLS and promote PerkinElmer’s core values.
Escalate business-development opportunities to the line manager.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of data, including performance metrics.
Operational Duties
Perform routine laboratory research activities including, but not limited to, cell culture, sample preparation, and assay reagent and media preparation.
Perform various biological assays using manual and automated techniques as required by departmental projects.
Analyse and report data using corporate tools; apply QC rules to ensure acceptability.
Track assay performance metrics, communicate issues, and recommend improvements; support evaluation of new technologies as applicable.
Participate actively in scientific team meetings by presenting data and identifying opportunities for innovation.
Maintain training and compliance in health & safety, security, environmental, and operational areas.
Actively seek opportunities to develop the service by engaging with the team leader, customer, and other groups to share best practices.
Operate to approved quality standards.
Work independently and flexibly based on team priorities and manage realistic work schedules to meet requirements.

Basic Qualifications
BSc or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences) with relevant laboratory experience.
At least 2 years of demonstrated technical expertise performing laboratory bioassays using manual and automated techniques.
Demonstrable experience leading teams, delivering training, or coaching and mentoring staff in an industry setting.
Knowledgeable in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and good laboratory safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences).
Advanced experience with skilled techniques such as flow cytometry, cellular imaging, meso-scale discovery, ELISA, qPCR, Next-Generation Sequencing, and/or CRISPR.
Experience with standard and advanced cell-culture systems such as organoids, iPSC, and/or air–liquid interface models.
Computational skills for automated data acquisition and analysis; familiarity with relevant data-analysis applications.
Knowledge of GCP, GCLP, and GMP principles in pharmaceutical environments.
Knowledge of 5S and/or Six Sigma principles is an advantage.
