The R&D group in Seer Green is seeking a Contract Electronics Design Engineer. The team consists of 20 people who are focused on the development of scientific instrumentation. We are seeking a contract electronic design engineer to assist in the design and commissioning of upgraded circuitry for a thermal instrument. The project will involve evaluating current schematics and implementing improvements to them within a project framework.

We wish to employ a highly qualified person at a senior level with an electronics background and at least 5 years of relevant experience preferably in design and development of scientific instrumentation with a focus on low noise analogue design. Knowledge of control theory, FPGA technology and firmware development in C is desirable.  This will be a fixed term contract of 6 months.

The successful candidate will apply electronics and engineering knowledge and experience in combination with good design and problem-solving ability to assist in the development of products that meet performance and cost targets. They will operate within a multidisciplinary project team.

Job Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • To work with other members of the product sustaining team to implement and test the upgraded thermal control circuitry.
  • A proven background in low noise analogue design.
  • A proven background in FPGA development, specifically Xilinx using Vivado toolchain.
  • Implementing firmware or VHDL that may be required to support the design
  • Conducting technical reviews and reacting to input from other members of the project team.
  • Procuring parts and managing suppliers for the assembly of prototype boards.
  • Development of manufacturing assembly and test processes including the design and build of test fixtures.
  • Production and validation of manufacturing documentation
  • Working with manufacturing to provide guidance, training and troubleshooting support during pilot batch manufacture
  • Writing and presenting technical project reports including design documentation and performance validation reviews

Qualifications

  • Minimum of good Honours Degree in Electronics

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years practical experience in design and development of new products.
  • Experience in analogue circuit design, layout and optimization, specifically for low signal amplification and high-performance closed loop control systems
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing, including an excellent understanding and application of sampling theory, noise reduction, filtering and digital signal conditioning
  • A proven background in FPGA development, specifically Xilinx using Vivado toolchain.
  • Firmware development experience in C.
  • Experience of EMC / compliance testing
  • Experience of product development within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Previous involvement in most aspects of the development life cycle, from initial analysis and design, to implementation, testing, documentation and transition to manufacture
  • Experience in reviewing designs and defining technical approach
  • Experience using Altium Designer and/or OrCad for schematic capture.
  • Experience using circuit simulation tools such as LTSpice.

Preferred Experience

  • Physics knowledge and application of thermal control and management, magnetic & electric fields, and semi-conductors
  • Familiarity with product design methodologies such as a life cycle model or stage-gate process
