Detection Sales Specialist – Southern CA

In this role you will:

Grow Geographic Sales Volume: Execute a sales plan that aligns with the region's and company's strategic objectives.  Direct growth-oriented activities at the current customer base, identify new targeted accounts, participate in trade shows, and improve overall market share and profitability.  Utilize resources effectively to grow customer base and expand revenue.  Territory is Southern CA.  San Diego or surrounding area preferred.

Grow Designated Account(s) Sales Volume.  Execute a sales plan specific to designated account(s) which promotes the growth of the Screening Reagents (such as PerkinElmer Alpha technology, microplates, and LITES cell health and reporter assays) and Multilabel Detection Plate Reader (EnVision, EnSight and Victor Nivo) product lines, with obvious interest in the growth of all company product lines.  Account management of current customer base, identification of new targeted accounts, participation in trade shows, and improvement of overall market share and profitability.  Utilize other sales and support resources available from the company. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing account “mapping” strategy to identify key players within each account(s)
  • Developing specific annual growth plans in designated account(s)
  • Identifying and qualifying instrument and reagent sales opportunities within designated account(s)
  • Networking within designated account(s) to fully understand their needs
  • Developing proposals to provide system solutions to your customers’ needs
  • Closing business opportunities with vertical sales team, engaging internal resources as needed
  • Working with Field Applications Scientists to drive opportunities and customer adoption in our technologies
  • Monitoring sales growth and new opportunities within designated account(s)
  • Monitoring overall customer satisfaction with our products and services

Key areas of focus for the territory will be reagent and consumable products within the Discovery Assay Systems (DAS) business elements, as well as plate readers from the MLD portfolio.  The growth will also be supported by a team of field application scientists.

Develop and implement business plans.  Maintain an effective time and territory management plan.  Present business and technical information.  Identify customer needs and trends.  Promote and position PerkinElmer support services to customers.  Provide information about techniques and products.  Follow up inquiries about goods and services.  Establish pricing agreements and quotations at key accounts.  Maintain customer information utilizing approved information tools and technologies such as the company’s Customer Relationship Management software (CRM).  Timely updates to opportunity funnel and weekly forecast updates.  Healthy funnel management through continual prospecting efforts.  As part of the Account Manager program you should also monitor ALL business opportunities which fall within the designated account(s).

Position Requirements.  A BA/BS degree in the biological or life sciences is required.  A minimum of five years selling experience is preferred in the life science industry (ideally at key accounts located in the territory.)  Preference will be given to individuals having experience (including laboratory) and working knowledge of life science reagents (specifically immunoassays) along with multilabel detection plate reader instruments and applications.  This position requires approximately 35% travel.
