Technical Data Governance Lead

Responsibilities

- Design and build data governance solutions including lineage tracking, metadata management, and data quality controls
- Develop automated systems for tracking data provenance and data auditing across our data landscape
- Build data quality monitoring tools and remediation processes for large, messy datasets
- Create and maintain technical documentation for data assets, processes, and governance rules
- Implement and configure data catalog solutions to improve data discovery and understanding
- Write code to automate governance workflows and integrate governance into existing data pipelines
- Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to embed governance into daily operations
- Communicate changes and rationale to internal stakeholders including site leads and general managers
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience implementing technical data governance solutions
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and other data technologies
- Demonstrated experience cleaning and organizing large, messy datasets
- Practical knowledge of data lineage tracking and implementation
- Experience working with data warehouses, data lakes, and modern data architectures
- Track record of building (not just planning) data quality frameworks
- Strong documentation skills with examples of technical processes you've documented
- Experience implementing metadata management systems or data catalogs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regulated industries with complex data requirements
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms like Databricks/Unity Catalog or AWS data services
- Experience building data lineage solutions from scratch when commercial tools were insufficient
- Background in industries with particularly complex or messy data challenges
- Ability to show examples of governance systems you've personally built
