Job Title: Lab Technician
Location: Novopharm , Scarborough, ON M1B 2K9, Canada
Maintains all lab supplies and informs of low inventory levels of supplies to ensure stock is replenished on a timely basis.
Accurately maintains Inventory is applicable database. Double Checks inventory database entries made by other person to ensure accuracy.
Delivers an adequate supply of compressed gases to ensure testing can proceed without interruption.
Receives and delivers all incoming laboratory supplies and enters their receipt in the computerized tracking system.
Removes, relocates or disposes of various laboratory items and heavy items as needed.
Maintains the solvent room, gas cylinder room, storage rooms and other relevant storage locations in a clean and organized manner. Involved in any required laboratory reorganization activities.
Perform daily inventory for the in use yellow solvent cabinet in the lab.
Perform monthly inventory checks, sorting and organization of the designated storage rooms.
Perform monthly inventory checks of the solvent room to ensure up to date inventory quantities.
Removes tested samples and expired chemicals and other types of laboratory waste (including electronic waste) from laboratory and prepares for disposal.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Laboratory environment experience
Physical Demands
- The overall physical exertion of this position requires:
- Sit or stand 2-3 hours in laboratory areas.
- Walk 3-4 hours within a facility.
- Reach above/below the shoulder, bend at the knees and waist.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Moving Heavy stuff like 200 Kg barrels and gas cylinder
- Office work activities, including keyboard, with fingers/hands/arms up to 4 hours.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Demonstrates appropriate use of relevant equipment after training
- Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery.
- Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory.
- Work with bio hazards.
Working Environment
- Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment.
- Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
- Employee maybe required to manage hazardous wastes in compliance with company procedures & State/Federal/Local hazardous waste regulations. Duties may include: Identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, labeling.
- Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately.
- Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
