The Technical Lab Services Leader is responsible for the management of the Technical Lab Services (TLS) Team supporting our customer. This role will work with the Global Technical Lab Services Leader to ensure that the TLS teams at all sites are delivering the same quality of work and customer responsiveness required. They will work with the OneSource Site Lead regarding activities carried out at each respective customer site, and work as part of a team to meet, track and report critical metrics and KPI’s. 

This role will need to travel to customer sites based on customer and team need. Therefore, must have the ability to travel by air, vehicle and/or other means of transportation as business requires. Travel will vary depending on the site and customer need.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the Customer and PerkinElmer staff to ensure quality and compliance of work and activities carried out within the laboratory.  
  • Interface with key customer contacts to ensure KPIs are being hit and customer satisfaction is at a high-level.  
  • Work in collaboration with Customer line safety reps to ensure a high level of safety is maintained in the lab.  
  • Meet regularly with key stakeholders (lab staff, service providers, management) to identify, review and resolve issues in a timely manner and/or escalate as necessary.  
  • Attend floor/building oversight meetings. 
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for all TLS activities. 
  • Support customer desired growth by identifying activities in which we can provide additional services, working with all critical PerkinElmer and customer team members and following proper approval processes. 
  • Mentor and train staff at client location regarding best-in-class customer support, follow-up communication and specific laboratory support skills to drive growth and customer satisfaction. 
  • Collaborate with Service Manager to drive talent development, overall business performance, and succession planning. 
  • Accountable for all assigned staff administrative duties; including on-boarding, work hour documentation/approval, expense report approval, time-off, etc. 
  • Work with Service Manager to ensure the on-site team is efficiently deployed and has proper training with cross training opportunities defined. 
  • Facilitate weekly team lead meetings, as well as one on ones, performance reviews/evaluations. 
  • Address disciplinary and/or performance problems when necessary, in accordance with company policy. 
  • Facilitate interviews for all new hires and ensure successful onboarding. 
  • Ability to travel regionally per business needs. 
  • Identify and/or create necessary SOP’s, Work Instructions and documentation to ensure you and your team carry out activities in a consistent and reliable manner. 
  • Maintain safe motor vehicle operation. 
  • Maintain training and compliance in areas of health and safety, security, environmental and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Scientific field or related discipline including military experience with 1+ year(s) in leadership: leading, guiding or coaching other leaders OR 
  • Associates degree in a Scientific field or related discipline including military experience with 2+ year(s) in leadership: leading, guiding or coaching other leaders OR 
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 5+ year(s) in leadership: leading, guiding or coaching other leaders 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment with experience within the pharmaceutical industry as highly preferred.  
  • Expertise in Analytical and/or Preparative Purification techniques.  
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices. 
  • Knowledge of 5S and/or 6 sigma principles. 

Working Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory.   
  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.   
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time   
  • The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.     
  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).   
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.     
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.   
  • Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.  Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and labeling hazardous waste.   
  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.  
  • May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment. 

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $(70,000) to $(100,000). The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
