The Centre of Excellence Engineer provides highly visible, on-site customer support through installation, preventive and remedial maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex laboratory equipment and systems. You will verify and approve the operational quality of system equipment, instruct customers on operation and maintenance, and act as the company's liaison on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. This role spans system hardware, software, PCs, networking/wireless networking, and laboratory instrumentation. It is a customer support role, not a research position, though scientific literacy is beneficial to understand lab processes. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance: Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to ensure uptime and compliance, documenting all work to quality standards.  
  • Technical troubleshooting and diagnostics: Systematically diagnose issues on complex electro-mechanical instrumentation and associated software/controls; using data analysis to perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.  
  • Customer liaison: Serve as the primary interface with customer stakeholders on technical and administrative matters; interpret needs and coordinate with sales, customer support, or engineering as appropriate. 
  • Planning and coordination: Plan, schedule, and follow up with customers and suppliers on work status, parts availability, and timelines; ensure effective maintenance programs in a dynamic environment. 
  • Documentation and compliance: Maintain accurate service records, adhere to safety, GxP where applicable, and company/site policies. 
  • Knowledge sharing: Instruct end users on operation and maintenance; contribute to team know‑how and continuous improvement. 
  • Teamwork and autonomy: Work both independently and within small and large teams, taking personal responsibility for outcomes across a diverse instrument portfolio. 

Equipment support will cover a wide range of laboratory systems, including: 

  • NMR, HPLC, LC/MS and SFC systems 
  • Tecan and other robot systems

Required

  • Background in chemistry or related science 
  • Relevant experience maintaining complex automation
  • Professional-level English 
  • Demonstrated team player mindset with a focus on daily delivery quality 
  • Alignment with PerkinElmer core values 

Preferred/Advantageous 

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, chemical or other analytical laboratories
  • Continuous improvement experience (e.g., 5S, Lean) 
  • Coordination/planning and strong organizational skills 
  • Customer service experience

Additional Information 

  • This is a hands-on service/maintenance technician role, not a research position; scientific literacy is advantageous. 
  • Roles based at our client site in Gothenburg require a drug test and background screening. 
  • All roles at PerkinElmer Sweden include a standard 6‑month probationary period.
