Calibration Technician

We are looking for a Calibration Technician to join the team located at one of our client sites. The role assists in the provision of a high-quality, UKAS accredited calibration service for a range of equipment and instrumentation within the site laboratory and manufacturing community.  Working collaboratively with all members of the calibration laboratory team and providing a proactive and focused approach, optimising service delivery, equipment up-time and manufacturing compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform internal calibrations including Temperature, Humidity, Pressure, Vacuum, Electrical, Dimensional and Mass.
• Perform intermediate checks of laboratory reference standards.
• Assist calibration laboratory team staff with internal audits, weekly, monthly and quarterly.  Participate in UKAS and client audits or internal investigations, as required. 
• Assist customers with measurement-related queries.
• Keep customers updated throughout the life cycle of the calibration activity (Internal or external).
• Ownership of specific areas and tasks within the calibration laboratory, including equipment checks and maintenance, drift data updates after checks, calibration certificate reviews and associated uncertainty budget updates.
• Conduct basic trouble shooting and minor repairs to customer equipment.
• Be aware of handling requirements for customers’ equipment and the laboratory's high precision reference standards.
• Immediate non-conformance or issue reporting to laboratory manager.
• Perform site wide equipment collections and returns.
• Perform contract reviews and equipment booking in.
• Where required, sub-contract item calibrations: including, quote request, purchase order raising and sending to vendor via courier. 
• Adhere to 5S principles for a safe and efficient workplace. 
• Work efficiently and effectively without compromising quality.
• Demonstrates high attention to detail and maintains high standards at all times.
• Adhere to all site and laboratory quality standards at all times.

Critical Skills: 

• Minimum 2 years' experience in at least two of the following calibration fields. High accuracy temperature calibration including fixed points, high accuracy pressure calibrations using piston gauges, high accuracy electrical calibrations including, resistance (using Ratio Techniques), Voltage (using Ratio Techniques), Frequency, 17th and 18th edition test equipment. Humidity calibrations using chilled mirror hygrometers and mass calibrations using mass comparators.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
• Must have an in-depth working knowledge of measurement uncertainty, budget draft and maintenance.
• Must have been involved in or led UKAS assessments.
• Must have an in-depth knowledge of ISO17025 and be able to work to the defined principles and requirements of the standard.
• Ability to work to own initiative, but also be team orientated and able to work with minimal supervision
• Knowledge and understanding of EHS procedures
• Experience of working in a fast paced, operational environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High customer focus.

Basic Qualifications: 

• NVQ level 3 and modern apprenticeship in a related engineering field.
• Experience within the Laboratory Instrument Support or manufacturing sector.
• PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).

Desired Experience:

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to GMP
• Experience of working within Pharma
• Have experience using IndySoft calibration management software.
• Have an in-depth knowledge of excel, including VBA, macros, pivot tables and power query.

Working Environment:

• Role is site based on a customer site.
• Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory. 
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time 
• The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite Frequently operating around instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.   
• May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.
