Location Collegeville, PennsylvaniaUS Job ID REQ-056233The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-organized environment for research and experimentation. This role includes managing personnel, maintaining equipment, overseeing budgets, and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operational Management
- Supervise and coordinate daily lab activities to ensure the lab space is ready for science and equipment has received the appropriate service activities
- Oversee inventory and procurement of lab supplies and materials
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals and biological samples
- Facilitate and coordinate the installation of capital equipment in the lab
- Triage issues to effectively identify problems that can be resolved vs problems that require escalation
- Monitor team workload and adjust resources as needed to meet the needs of the lab
- Inspect work to ensure it meets quality standards and was executed following documented procedures
- Coordinate with other departments as needed to align on service delivery
- Track metrics and KPI's and proactively adjust ways of working to ensure targets are met
- Demonstrate clear and effective communication with the customer, your team, and leadership
- Serve as a liaison between staff and upper management
- Report any shortages or maintenance needs via the appropriate channel
- Liaise with vendors, facilities, and administrative departments
- Ensure quality and EHS compliance of the team activities
- Maintain safety documentation, including SDS, training logs, and inspection records
- Coordinate safety Gemba's
- Lead regular meetings with the scientists to share information and align on lab activities to ensure appropriate staffing and prioritization of tasks within the team
Personnel Management
- Monitor employee performance and provide training, mentor, and disciplinary action as needed
- Communicate goals, updates and changes clearly and regularly with the team
- Hold regular team meets and 1:1's with all direct reports
- Coordinate onboarding and safety training for new lab members
- Schedule and delegate tasks to support staff
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Schedule shifts and manage time-off requests to maintain adequate staffing levels.
- Address and resolve employee or customer issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, productivity, and other performance metrics.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet organizational goals and deadlines.
- Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.

Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years’ experience in a customer facing role
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in a scientific or laboratory environment.
- 1+ years of leadership experience
- Associate degree or professional certification in a relevant field (e.g., Project Management, Six Sigma, Business Administration, Supply Chain).
- Basic understanding of GLP/GxP and experience in a compliance-driven environment.
- Familiarity with 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
- Knowledge of chemical handling and safety practices.
- Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Ability to read and interpret chemical labels and safety signage.
- Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Working Environment:
- Must be able to work in a laboratory and controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.)
- Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
- The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite. Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools, or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching in order to perform in a service function.
- Occasionally move or lift to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to perform the essential service functions of this position.
- Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations. Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and labeling hazardous waste.
- Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
- May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $65,000 to $75,000. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
